Liu Wa, presented by SABSAY gallery at ASIA NOW 2019, and Miao Ying, presented by DSLcollection and theartofthiscentury in 2018 and in represented by MadeIn Gallery, at ASIA NOW Paris art fair, won the 2019 Porsche Award for “Young Chinese Artist of the Year”.
On November 8th, 2018, the 2019 Porsche “Young Chinese Artist of the Year” was officially launched at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre. The event was co-organized by Porsche China and the Cc Foundation, and supported by ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair. This event marks the continuation and upgrade of the first Porsche “Young Chinese Artist of the Year” in 2017, demonstrating the commitment in making this event a sustainable, authoritative and innovative biennial art selection in China. This programme aims to find and support the most innovative and pioneering new young artists in China, and encourage them to advance in the exploration and practice of their art, by studying topics that mainly relate to contemporary art and young artists. Additionally, the latest works of three award-winning artists from the first Porsche “Young Chinese Artist of the Year” will also be exhibited at the 2018 ART021 Shanghai Contemporary Art Fair held from 8th – 11th November.
The Porsche “Young Chinese Artist of the Year” has gathered a group of high-ranking art institutions and academies in China, along with well-known artists, curators as well as media to jointly create a professional art selection. The nomination committee members of this year's selection include Professor Qiu Zhijie, Dean of the School of Experimental Art of the Central Academy of Fine Arts; Ms. Yu Miao, art historian and critic; Mr. Xu Zhen, artist and owner of the Madein Gallery; artist Liu Jianhua; and Dr. Yeewan Koon, the chair and associate professor of the Fine Arts Department, University of Hong Kong. All have made outstanding achievements in their respective fields of expertise and have profound insights into contemporary art.
