Neo-Pop Art Exhibition “City Pop”

>> Presented by Julien Sato - TOKYOITE

In recent years Japanese contemporary art has become known for its colorful and explosive works often influenced by its own pop culture such as anime or manga. The dazzling colors and surrealistic characters used without hesitation by these artists have caught the attention of the Western audience and since the success of Takashi Murakami we refer to it as ‘neo-pop art’.

Tokyo, the capital of Japan became the playground for several artists of this movement. The energy that emerges from this metropolis, its crowd and its urbanism inspired these artists in their creations since decades.

On the occasion of “Asia Now 2019” five Japanese artists all connected to Tokyo: Takeru Amano, Fantasista Uatamaro, Ly, Yoshinori Tanaka and Victor Takeru showcase their vision of the neo-pop art in a group show entitled “City Pop”.
