Born in the city of Fuji, Japan in 1979, Fantasista Utamaro earned a degree in textile studies from Tama Art University.
An artist, animation director, illustrator, graphic designer, textile designer, and art director now based in New York, Utamaro is part of the new generation of young Japanese artists that challenge the traditional boundaries of art.
His distinctive ultra pop and technicolor style expresses the explosive energy in his works that are created based on his three concepts: celebration, freedom, and limitlessness.
He recently took part in an art event for Syrian refugees at the UN headquarters in New York City.
He has also collaborated with Pharrell Williams for his music videos, as well as with brands Maybelline, Stella McCartney, MINI (BMW), GAP, Netflix, and also worked on Japanese movies and magazines, just to name a few.
