For the edition 2022 of Asia Now, we have brought together two exceptional Korean artists: Lee Hyun Joung and Sangwoo Kim. Having discovered their work almost simultaneously, an exhibition in mirror came to us naturally. Lee Hyun Joung's ink landscapes accompanied by Sangwoo Kim's smooth and colored stones transport us into a contemplative universe, where the matter is gradually revealed in its complexity and beauty.

Born in 1972 in Korea, Lee Hyun Joung creates a series of landscapes from memories of her native country that she mixes with dreamy projections of vast and unreal places. The single horizon line is replaced by a multitude of parallel and sinuous lines, which split and accumulate like geological strata or sediment ripples. Tending towards abstraction, the detail is evacuated in favor of the sensation of infinity and the uncertain nature of the represented element: a wave could just as well be a mountain.

Born in Korea in 1977, the ceramist Sangwoo Kim is a "stone maker". Inspired by nature, which offers him infinite shapes and colors, he combines aesthetics with tactility. He uses clay to form hollow bodies, open or closed, whose surfaces he will exploit to gather colors and structures. A work that is both aesthetic and sensual, reflecting an imaginary geology, which reveals the oriental roots of its author.

The gallery Louis & Sack is very pleased to present for the first time, works by Lee Hyun Joung and Sangwoo Kim in a duo show at the Asia Now.
