“It is not easy for a people conditioned by fear under the iron rule of the principle that might is right to free themselves from the enervating miasma of fear”.  Aung San Suu Kyi

Identity of Fear, a portrait series created in 2014 by Mayco Naing, was inspired by some quotes of Aung San Suu Kyi’s famous speeches collected in a book titled “Freedom From Fear”. With Identity of Fear Mayco Naing uses a visual language to represent the feelings of the generation known in Myanmar as the Generation 1988. This generation not only had witnessed the 1988 uprising but grew up with no hope for a better future due to a bad education system and lack of professional opportunities. In the aftermath of the military coup that occurred on 1st February 2021, Mayco Naing took street photos capturing the spirit of the new generation protesting in the streets of Yangon. Titled Generation No Fear this new series gives a new relevance and topicality to Identity of Fear

Generation No Fear is a series of street photos capturing the spirit of the young generation protesting in the street of Yangon in the aftermath of the military coup that occurred on 1st February 2021.
