Guzel Zakir

Guzel Zakir’s practice centers on issues related to identity, history, tradition and memory related to Uyghur communities across Turkic regions. She depicts the monobrow as a traditional  symbol and veneration of fertility and feminine elegance, rather than a stigma. On display, she presents a series of scarves produced with silk that raise questions about the  representation of these very traditions in today’s consumer society.
