Shirana Shahbazi

For its inaugural participation at Asia Now, Galerie Peter Kilchmann is pleased to present works by the Japan-born artist Leiko Ikemura and the Iran-born Shirana Shahbazi. In Leiko Ikemura's work, memories of her native Japan bloom in landscapes where human figures and nature fuse together. Hybrid forms and mythical beings seem to be in a perpetual state of metamorphosis, placing them within a universal iconography. Shirana Shahbazi approaches her photography as conceptual space in which the contradictory relationship that the medium maintains with external reality becomes visible. In a hybrid visual language, photographs and hand-colored prints unfold within sculptural ceramic frames.
