Young-jun Tak

Young-jun Tak’s sculptures in this open shrine reflect upon individual and collective desires that shape our societal structure and system in the name of beliefs. This presentation lays a bridge of contemplation between his home country South Korea and the chosen home Germany. Two large sculptural installations ruminate on the artist’s childhood and upbringing in South Korea as a homosexual man. Chained (Twin) (2020) on the altar wall is two identical crucifixes in a collage of homophobic propaganda flyers produced and distributed by Christian extremists in South Korea, which condemn LGBTQ+ culture and offer the so-called conversion therapy.
