For Asia NOW 2023 Aspan Gallery will bring works by a selection of Central Asian artists of different generations. Paris-based Uzbekistani Saodat Ismailova, who was exhibited last year at both documenta and Venice Biennale, will show her neon and horsehair installation “What Was My Name?”. In the work the artist questions the identity of Central Asian women and explores the continuity of female destinies around the world. In her video-collage “Her Right” she created a patchwork from Uzbek fiction films from 1927 until 1985, focusing on hujum (unveiling campaign).
