The Catherine Putman Gallery presents recent works by Keita Mori with a selection of paper works by Takesada Matsutani.
Keita Mori (b. 1981) is a Japanese artist who has lived and worked in France for over a decade. His work is characterised by the presence of the thread: threads of cotton, silk, wool or copper that he pulls and fixes with a glue gun, thus creating exploded spaces, perspective effects and infinite irregular details. His drawing extends across different scales, just as easily onto the walls as part of on-site installations as onto plain white paper or photographic prints.
Takesada Matsutani (b.1937), who who lives between France and Japan, is an important artist of the Japanese contemporary art scene. Over the past fifty years, he has developed a complex practice that interweaves the realm of traditional Japanese painting, the avant-garde spirit of Gutai and affinities to the contemporary research of the Hard-Edge movement.
His work has been exhibited in major institutions, including the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Musée d’art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Osaka.
