Taro Izumi (Japan) is multimedia artist with a collaborative practice. Taro uses video as a recursive apparatus for exploring the mechanisms of art making, while also commenting on the materiality of video by combining it with structural and architectural interventions into the exhibition space. Made with simple materials, these structures are often used in the production of the videos, creating a recursive loop between space and video, production and reception, recorded time and real time.
In 2017 Taro was the subject of a major retrospective at Palais de Tokyo, Paris. Taro has had numerous solo shows throughout Japan, including recently at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa; and Take Ninagawa, Tokyo. Solo shows in Europe include at Nassauischer Kunstverein, Wiesbaden (2014); and Galerie Georges-Philippe & Nathalie Vallois, Paris (2014, 2009).
