Beijing Commune presents an array of works from its core roster of artists, including Hu Xiaoyuan (b. 1977), Ma Qiusha (b.1982), Wang Luyan (b.1956), Xie Molin (b.1979), Zhang Xiaogang (b.1958) and Zhao Yao (b. 1981). Belonging to di erent generations in the contemporary Chinese scene, these artists produce works that respect both the evolving political, cultural and social conditions in China and the continued interest from artists in depicting these changes since the emergence of the art scene in the late 1970s.

The artists employ a wide range of media and techniques that encompasses traditional Chinese materials, such as silk and wood, as well as acrylic on canvas, etching, cyanotype photos, concrete, and everyday found objects. This diversity allows for a number of narratives on the challenges, melancholy and poetry of contemporary life.
