Joji Nakamura

Joji Nakamura was born in 1974 in Chiba and currently resides in Yokohama. He is an untrained artist whose popularity has been growing over the last few years. His work is characterised by easily recognised aesthetics, deploying techniques borrowed from Dada and stream-of-consciousness. Nakamura paints with his hands using acrylic, gesso, graphite, and ink on canvas, paper, or wood. His asymmetrical and rough edged paintings saw him mounting a number of solo shows in the last couple of years, including Bookmarc (Marc Jacob’s) gallery in Omotesando, Tokyo, W+K (Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo), Clear Editions gallery, and at The Container. A small monogram of his work was also published this year by Partizan25.
