"Half-round wooden pallets of the same size 80 x 40 cm are placed at the corner of the room (green drawing on the plan). My assistant gives me pallets one by one. I start the performance by climbing on the first pallet, the second putting to the side to make the first layer. And I do not go down until the end. I put under my feet the second floor, then the third, the fourth. The boards under my feet form a column (drawing in red on the plan). I continue until I get stuck between the column and the ceiling. I remain in the same position until the closing of the evening. I paint the lines on the edges of the pallets, the number of lines corresponding to the number of floors. The column remains on the spot as the trace of performance. It challenges space and gravity. The meaning of the body on the column changes according to the evolution. The desire for elevation at the end meets the limit of height. The meaning of the body on the column changes according to the evolution. The desire of the elevation at the end meets the limit of height. The traits are an ancient way to represent time, they are also the link with my drawings which are exhibited by Liusa Wang Gallery." - Zhao Duan
